ABOUT OUR FIRM

Mr. Sobampo is the managing director of Sobampo Law Firm, PLLC. Mr. Sobampo was admitted to practice law in March 2010 and since then has concentrated in the areas of immigration and family law. Before admission, attorney Sobampo dedicated over fifteen years to private industry where he owned and managed several multi-million dollar companies.

 

While in law school Mr. Sobampo did an externship working as assistant city prosecutor for the city of Surprise, Arizona. Prior to admission Mr. Sobampo clerked for two years for attorneys practicing in the areas of immigration and family law. Mr. Sobampo has been recognized, among many other things, for his dedication to serving the underserved Latino population in Arizona.

 

He has provided hundreds of volunteer hours to immigration efforts such as the citizenship drives sponsored by Congressman Ed Pastor and with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program sponsored by the IRS, and the Maricopa County Family Lawyer’s Assistance Program. Also, Mr. Sobampo dedicates part of his time to teaching as a part-time faculty at his alma matter and other local colleges and universities in Arizona.

Legal Intern –City of Surprise Prosecutor’s Office – 05/09 – 12/09
Under the direct supervision of the head prosecutor for the City of Surprise, Arizona as a Rule 38 clinical intern, I reviewed cases, worked arraignments, recommended sentencing, negotiated plea agreements, drafted motions, and argued misdemeanor cases ranging from trespass to domestic violence assault.

Law Clerk –Corporate Counsel Massage Envy - Summer Extern 06/09-08/09
Worked directly under the chief corporate counsel to review franchise agreements and identify defective contract clauses and territory conflicts to minimize corporate legal exposure to franchisees.

Judge Pro Tempore Maricopa County - 2021 to present
As a Judge pro tempore, Mr. Sobampo serves the community by imparting justice in several justice courts in Maricopa County, Arizona. Attorney Sobampo handles both civil and criminal docket, which include misdemeanors like Driving under the influence (DUI), assault, criminal traffic, issuing warrants, etc. Mr. Sobampo also rules on civil docket matters in which the amount of the dispute will not exceed more than $10,000, landlord-tenant complaints, orders of protection, injunctions against harassment, etc.

Real Estate Broker - AmeriPrime Realty fka/ Sobampo Realty -Phoenix, AZ (2002 to 10/31/14)
Owned and operated two Real Estate Franchise operations one from Century 21, a national chain, and another from West USA, an Arizona franchise. As a result of these franchise purchases, I gained extensive knowledge of the analysis of prospectus/due diligence documentation and negotiated key portions of the franchise agreement. My two companies focused mainly on small commercial and multi-family transactions averaging 10 per year and ranging in price between $1.5 and 5million. The residential transaction accounted for a smaller percentage of the business averaging 4 per month and ranging in price between $150,000 and $350,000. I supervised ten senior real estate professionals and about 15 realtors with experience of less than one year. By the middle of 2007, I started the transition to a new career in law and started law school in August 2007.

Insurance Broker – Century One Insurance / Farmers Insurance -Phoenix, AZ (2002 to 2007)
Farmers Insurance -Phoenix, AZ (2002 to 2007)From 1998 to about 2005 managed and directed an independent insurance agency under Century One Insurance. On or about 2002 became a captive agent for Farmers Insurance with a volume of $30,000 to $35,000 in monthly premiums until 2010 when the book of business was sold.

President/CEO - Century One Corporation - Phoenix, AZ (2000 to 2007)
Served as president and CEO of a real estate, mortgage, and construction operation that grew from a startup in 2000 to 4 million in gross incomes in 1995. Responsible for the management of three branch offices located in central Phoenix, west Phoenix, and Yuma. In addition, Managed a working monthly budget of approximately $180,000 and hired, trained, and supervised a team of 40-50 employees. Managed business activity averaging approximately monthly closing of 15 real estate transactions, 30 mortgage loans, and 1 construction project.

Citifinancial fka. The Associates Fin. Svcs. - Branch Vice President, Phoenix , AZ (1997-2000)
Served as a branch vice-president of the largest consumer finance branch of The Associates Financial Services in the state of Arizona. In this position I managed an excess of 30 million dollars in assets and a budget of $400,000 annually. Responsible for reaching profit goals according to a business plan that I drafted in collaboration with division executives. Consistently increased profitability for the district and for the company by reaching aggressive growth benchmarks and low collection ratios and bad debt. Responsible for networking and securing new business partnerships with dealers, brokers, and service providers in line with the company’s mission.

Marketing Director - LDI Homes, - Tucson , AZ (1994-1997)
lead the marketing operations of a mid-size land development company specialized in the construction of apartment projects via the creation of limited partnerships and utilizing tax credits associated with low income housing. I researched real estate parcels and worked closely with city officials by conducting zoning board exception hearings. I worked closely with legal counsel, drafters, and engineers to create blueprints and designs that met legal, marketing, and aesthetic standards.

Scottsdale Community College – Faculty (8/2010- 2011)
Courses taught:Taught both online and in-person courses in the area of Business. Courses include Business and Ethical Issues in Business, Business Communication, and Introduction to Business, Marketing, and International Business. Spearheaded developing of new business curricula and worked with community advisory committees to develop new occupational non-credit courses to include licensing courses in construction, real estate, and insurance.

Phoenix School of Law – Adjunct Faculty (8/2010- 08/2011)
Courses taught:• Veteran’s Tax Preparation Clinic. Responsible for the design and implementation of the curriculum for the Personal Income Tax Course of the Veteran’s Clinic. I am responsible for the instruction and supervision of students who, as part of other legal services provided by the department of experiential learning, provide tax preparation to veterans.

University of Phoenix Axia – Adjunct (5/2008- 06/2009)
Courses taught: • GEN 200 - Skills for Professional Development --This course examined the skills necessary for successful critical thinking, teamwork, research, and communication. The course is designed to aid adult learners in acquiring and improving the core competencies that are necessary at University of Phoenix.
